Exhibit AKey Evidence

  1. The scene: Brink! (1998). “You are defined by the company you keep and how well you keep it.”
  2. Andy “Brink” Brinker has just confessed to his dad that he disobeyed him and secretly joined the sponsored X-Bladz team. He did it partly for the money his family needed and partly because he “wanted to be somebody.”
  3. His dad, Ralph, is a construction foreman who has been out of work for months after an injury. He doesn’t lecture. He tells Andy what losing his job taught him: “‘Construction foreman’ is what I do, not who I am.”
  4. Then he says, “You are defined by the company you keep and how well you keep it, not by what you just happen to do. You are Andy Brinker. You are a good son, and you are a good friend, who just happens to skate.”
  5. Scripture: “He who walks with wise men will be wise, but the companion of fools will be destroyed” (Proverbs 13:20). Ralph’s line is close to Proverbs: the people we walk with shape who we become, and keeping those friendships faithfully matters more than any title, team or trophy. Brink’s turnaround starts here. He goes back to his real friends and makes things right.
  6. Your job, your sport, your title is what you do. Your character and your companions show who you are.

"You are defined by the company you keep, and how well you keep it." 🛼

In Brink! (1998), Andy Brinker has just admitted he disobeyed his dad and secretly joined the sponsored team for the money and the magazine covers. His dad, Ralph, out of work for six months after an injury, doesn't yell. He tells Andy what losing his job taught him: "Construction foreman" is what he does, not who he is. Then he tells his son who he is: a good son, a good friend, who just happens to skate.

Scripture says the same about our companions: "He who walks with wise men will be wise, but the companion of fools will be destroyed" (Proverbs 13:20, NKJV). Who you walk with is who you become.

Dads, say this to your kids. ❤️
