What is said (source timestamps)

  • 21:07.2–21:14.4: "God could truly freely give you grace that is not dependent or conditional or with any strings attached..."
  • 10:15.6–10:21.3: reading John 6:29 (KJV): "Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent."
  • 10:36.8–10:45.2: "What is the will of the Father? It's to believe in Jesus Christ and look to Him for grace."
  • 14:52.9–14:59.6: "Romans 3 says there's a righteousness apart from the law that is imputed to us when we believe in Jesus."
  • 15:28.6–15:39.8: "If you have believed in Jesus, God does not impute your iniquity to you. If God imputes our iniquity, nobody will stand."

Why it matters

Matthew 7:21 ("he that doeth the will of my Father") is often read as a works test for salvation. Jesus Himself defines the Father's will: "this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life" (John 6:40), and the "work of God" is to believe on the One He sent (John 6:29). Righteousness is credited apart from the law to the one who believes (Romans 3:21–22; 4:5–8). If God counted our sins against us, no one could stand (Psalm 130:3). Salvation is received as a gift, not earned as wages (Romans 6:23; 11:6).

Scripture

  • Ephesians 2:8–9 NKJV: "For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast."
  • John 6:29 (KJV, as read in the clip): "This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent."
  • Romans 3:21–22; Romans 4:8; Psalm 130:3; Romans 6:23.

Sources

Salvation is a free gift.

"God could truly freely give you grace that is not dependent or conditional or with any strings attached."

When the crowd asked Jesus what works God requires, He answered: "This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent" (John 6:29). Romans 3 says there is a righteousness apart from the law, imputed to us when we believe in Jesus. And if God imputed our iniquity, nobody could stand (Psalm 130:3).

Grace that has to be earned isn't grace. Christ paid it all.

"For by grace you have been saved through faith... it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast." Ephesians 2:8–9 NKJV
