Rylands Papyrus

Shelf · Occult, New Age & Theosophy 62 of 64

Rylands Papyrus. John 18:31-33. The oldest New Testament piece we have. It dates to the 130s or 140s. If the scrap is that early, the original was written before it.

A quote cannot come before the book. Barnabas, about 70 to 79, quotes Matthew and Mark. The Didache quotes Matthew. Polycarp, Clement, Ignatius, Hermas. Every New Testament book is cited in a source earlier than the oldest Gnostic material. Every one. No exception.

The Da Vinci Code line: more than eighty gospels were considered, and only a few were chosen. That is not true. Nicaea did not meet to decide the canon.

There was an early consensus. The four were already there before the others were written.
