Were the "construction photos" of the old world edited before Photoshop ever existed? In this clip, the speakers point to darkroom cut-and-paste work with an X-Acto knife, Victorian retouching with pencil markings and scraping, and what they call "vanilla skies": backgrounds cut out of building photos and replaced with a flat gray or white sky, crop marks and all.
Photo retouching in that era is well documented. The bigger question the speakers raise is whether hundreds of altered photos point to "an industrial scale effort to create a narrative." That is their claim, and you should test it. But Scripture already warns us that the world has always edited the picture, and that the truth is found in what God has said, not in what man shows us.
