The #1 Stumbling Block to the Gospel? (A Pastor's Reply to Josh Howerton)
Shelf · Church Discernment & False Teachers 116 of 118
Exhibit AKey Evidence
- "The #1 conversational stumbling block to the gospel are public figures who claim Jesus & pro-life values while protecting pedophiles & enriching themselves."
- Howerton answered: "I think you're misreading what's happening."
- "The question isn't about politics itself, it's about the contradiction of teaching what Christians teach and then supporting a party that goes against it."
- "Go and read it in context and tell me who's the one that's using it correctly."
Exhibit BFrom the Word
“Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; Who put darkness for light, and light for darkness; Who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!”
“For do I now persuade men, or God? Or do I seek to please men? For if I still pleased men, I would not be a bondservant of Christ.”

ClassifiedFull Briefing
A pastor replied to Josh Howerton: "The #1 conversational stumbling block to the gospel are public figures who claim Jesus & pro-life values while protecting pedophiles & enriching themselves." He added: "There's no close second."
Howerton answered: "I think you're misreading what's happening."
Wretched Watchmen reads the exchange and responds: "The question isn't about politics itself, it's about the contradiction of teaching what Christians teach and then supporting a party that goes against it."
He points to Isaiah 5:20: "Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; who put darkness for light, and light for darkness; who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!" (NKJV) And he challenges anyone who quotes Scripture the other way: "Go and read it in context and tell me who's the one that's using it correctly."
The gospel was never meant to carry a party's banner. "For do I now persuade men, or God? Or do I seek to please men? For if I still pleased men, I would not be a bondservant of Christ." (Galatians 1:10, NKJV)
