Tacitus records Christians burned as garden lights after the fire of Rome. Diocletian ordered the Scriptures destroyed and boasted that the Christian religion was finished and the worship of the gods restored. He was wrong.
This clip then argues the pressure did not end when the empire fell. It says the church kept the old gods under new names, kept the text in Latin, and treated a Bible in the people’s language as a threat.
People were burned with the copy they owned. The question at the end is the point: does that sound like a group that wants you reading it?
