- Pastor Joby Martin, in his own “Abundant Treasure” sermon (Live Abundantly series, Nov. 2023): “You see, money is a tool… The moment we begin to love money, then we’ll begin to use people and use God to that end.”
- In the same sermon he warns that money says “If you love me, I’ll love you back,” and calls that “the lie that the world tells us.”
- Filmmaker Nathan Apffel (The Religion Business) says his investigation “is not an accusation of criminal wrongdoing.” On camera: “This isn’t a story about if Joby’s a good or bad guy or whether Eleven22 does good things.”
- Verified (SBA PPP data): The Church of Eleven22, Inc. was approved for a $1,730,965 PPP loan on April 7, 2020, with 211 jobs reported. $1,749,669 was forgiven in 2021.
- Verified (Open Space Institute, Tribune & Georgian, The Brunswick News): in 2020 the church bought the 3,217-acre “retreat tract” of the historic Cabin Bluff property in Camden County, Georgia, from The Nature Conservancy and the Open Space Institute for $12.75 million. The church’s own page says it partnered “with a few individuals and organizations to purchase the Retreat Center land and facilities at a deeply discounted price.”
- Verified (Eleven22’s 2025 Annual Report): $91.1M in total support and revenue and $176.3M in total assets. The report states “All financial information is audited.”
- Verified (ECFA membership-changes list): The Church of Eleven22 (Jacksonville, FL) left the ECFA by voluntary resignation on Feb. 11, 2026.
- Unverified: The Religion Business also makes claims about loans tied to the retreat center and to Joby Martin personally, citing loan documents. We did not see the underlying documents and could not verify them. Those claims are theirs.
- The other side: some of Apffel’s earlier claims about Eleven22 were disputed by Kyle Thompson (Undaunted.Life, Ep. 922) and in a YouTube response. Both say, among other things, that most Eleven22 retreats are free.

Filmmaker Nathan Apffel (The Religion Business) puts The Church of Eleven22 under that same light. He says it's "not an accusation of criminal wrongdoing," just a call for transparency. The public record shows a $1.73M PPP loan that was forgiven, a 3,217-acre Cabin Bluff tract bought for $12.75M, $91.1M in 2025 revenue, and a voluntary resignation from the ECFA in Feb 2026. Some of his other claims we couldn't verify ourselves.
