Case File: Did Jesus Worship a Goddess?

★ Website Exclusive ★

Shelf · Apologetics & Bible Evidence 7 of 7

A viral claim says “Jesus actually worshipped a goddess.” The evidence @morgueofficial offers is the Sophia of Jesus Christ, a Gnostic text said to teach that Jesus was sent by a goddess. Fellow believer @thewebbedwitness (yes, in the Spider-Man suit) opens the file, tests it against the eyewitness Gospels, and the case falls apart.

Exhibit AKey Evidence

  1. The church didn’t “ban” gospels. It rejected texts that contradict the eyewitness Gospels.
  2. The Gnostic gospels were written well after the apostles had died, then falsely attributed to them to borrow their authority.
  3. God doesn’t contradict Himself. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8), so a Jesus sent by a goddess is not the Jesus of Scripture.
  4. This is “itching ears” theology (2 Timothy 4:3): people heaping up teachers who tell them what they want to hear.
  5. Even false prophets come with signs and wonders (Matthew 24:24). Gnosticism doesn’t even have that.
  6. His closing verdict: “With great knowledge comes great accountability. Spider-Man can’t save you, but Jesus can.”

Exhibit BFrom the Word

“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.”
Hebrews 13:8 NKJV
“For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers;”
2 Timothy 4:3 NKJV
“For false christs and false prophets will rise and show great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect.”
Matthew 24:24 NKJV
